Rev. Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping is more of a theatrical production and protest movement than a typical "church." The persona of "Rev. Billy" is taken on by William Talen, who has been a playwright, stage performer, and theatrical producer. The "church's" actions take the form of protests against corporate targets such as Disney and Walmart. They also staged a protest in Washington (in 2007) against the war in Iraq. Reverend Billy also made several appearances to "preach" in support of the protesters in the Occupy Wall Street movement.
I suppose there's some irony in the fact that Reverend Billy's books, like What Would Jesus Buy? (2009) are available for sale from various sellers listing products on Amazon.com.
