A reader who has pre-knowledge of the steps of the hero quest in The Odyssey can essentially predict that Odysseus will face his biggest challenge, return home, and change his ways of life. Odysseus of course was a a prominent figure in the Trojan War. However, before the war had occurred, he was sent to find Helen along with other suitors which eventually led to the great war. That quest signaled that he would face his biggest challenge yet and essentially give him a new perspective of life. At the end of the story, once he had prevailed, it was made evident that he would finally return home because he had cleared up his act, faced his fears, and prevailed.
