Earl Warren, the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court during this case, agreed with the civil rights attorneys in the sense that the idea of "separate but equal" is unconstitutional. In his statement, Warren discusses how even though it is not clear whether the framers wanted the 14th amendment to apply to school concerns, he did argue that this doctrine of separate but equal did have a negative effect on African-American students in society. One of his famous phrases from the written opinion is as followed:
" Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
This ruling changes American society, as schools all over the country are now forced to desegregate.
