This land mass was not originally a part of Asia, it merged into the Eurasian plate 55 million years ago.

Which is why it is bordered by the Himalayas in the North, Hindu Kush in the West and Arakanese in the East.

Answer:

The Indian subcontinent refers to the region formed from the collision of the Indian basin with Eurasia about 55 million years ago; it was a part of the supercontinent of Gondwana

Step-by-step explanation:

A subcontinent is used to refer to a smaller divide of a continent. A subcontinent possesses its own distinct identity; this distinct identity could be geographical, cultural, or political.
