1(2)/(3) * 1 (7)/(10)

Change to improper fractions:

= (5)/(3) * (17)/(10)

Cancel common factor 5:

= (1 * 5)/(3) * (17)/(2 * 5)

= \frac{1} {3} * (17)/(2)

Combine:

= \frac{17} {6}

Simplify:

= 2\frac{5} {6}

There are 2 mixed numbers in 1 2/3 * 1 7/10. One is 1 2/3; the other is 1 7/10.

Convert both to improper fractions: 1 2/3 becomes 5/2, and 1 7/10 becomes 17/10.
5 17
Then your task is to multiply ---- * ----- , which, after reducing 5/10, becomes
2 10
