Mick paid $2.94 in sales tax on an item that cost $42.00 before tax. At that rate, how much would he pay in slaes tax for an item that costs $58.00 before tax?

For an item that cost $ 42, Mick paid $2.94 in sales tax. So percentage of sales tax is

(2.94)/(42) *100 = 7%

And we have to find the sales tax that he paid for an item that cost $58, and for that , we have to find 7% of 58 , that is

= (7)/(100) *58 = $4.06

So he pays a sales tax of $4.06 .
