Beverly can drive 600 miles in the same time as it takes Susan to drive 500 miles. If Beverly drives 10 mph faster than Susan, then how fast does Beverly drive?

600/x +10 =500/x Cross multiply.
600x=5000+500x
100x=5000
X=50
50+10=60
Check work. Beverly drives 60mph

t = D/rtimes the sameBev = Susan's time600mi/r+10 = 500mi/r
600r = 500r + 5000100r = 5000r = 50mph, Susan's speed. Beverly's is 60 mph 50+10And...checking600/60 = 500/50 = 10hr
