During the Paris Exposition of 1900, the main topic of discussion was that of "social economy." The United States decided to send a collection that showed the history of African Americans, including their present condition, their education and their literature. W. E. B. Du Bois was instrumental in designing the exhibition, and the Library of Congress sent 200 books written by African American authors. Moreover, the exhibition included 500 photographs, 32 charts and numerous maps.
