2x+y = 29
2x+x+2 = 29
3x = 27
x = 9

y = x+2 means that y can be replaced by x+2
The other equation is 2x+y = 29.
2x+y = 29
2x+x+2 = 29
3x = 27
x = 9
y = x+2 = 9+2 = 11
