DNA analysis is a technique that is often used in order to determine if an offspring is related to a parent. If the banding pattern in a baby shows a high correlation to a parental banding pattern, the two are most likely related.

Yolanda performed an experiment in which she analyzed the DNA samples of a mother hen and four baby chicks. Her results are shown below.
