FIRST FIND THE EQUATION OF THE LINE

I WILL USE THE POINTS (-94,24) AND (-54,12)

TO FIND THE GRADIENT

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) \\ m = (12 - 24)/( - 54 - ( - 94)) \\ m = ( - 24)/( - 54 + 94) \\ m = ( - 24)/(40) \\ m = ( - 3)/(5)

THE m ABOVE IS THE GRADIENT.

I WILL USE THE POINT (-74,18) TO GET THE VALUE OF C IN THE EQUATION Y=MX+C

15 = ( - 3)/(5) ( - 74) + c \\ 15 = (222)/(5) + c \\ c = 15 - (222)/(5) \\ c = ( - 147)/(5)

THEREFORE THE EQUATION NOW IS

y = ( - 3)/(5) x - (147)/(5) </strong><strong>\</strong><strong>\</strong></p><p></p><p></p><p><strong>FOR</strong><strong> </strong><strong>THE</strong><strong> </strong><strong>X-INTERCEPT</strong><strong> </strong><strong>Y</strong><strong>=</strong><strong>0</strong><strong> </strong><strong>SINCE</strong><strong> </strong><strong>IN</strong><strong> </strong><strong>THR</strong><strong> </strong><strong>X-AXIS</strong><strong> </strong><strong>Y</strong><strong>=</strong><strong>0</strong><strong>.</strong><strong>.</strong><strong>PLUG</strong><strong> </strong><strong>IN</strong><strong> </strong><strong>0</strong><strong> </strong><strong>IN</strong><strong> </strong><strong>THE</strong><strong> </strong><strong>PLACE</strong><strong> </strong><strong>OF</strong><strong> </strong><strong>Y</strong><strong> </strong><strong>TO</strong><strong> </strong><strong>GET</strong><strong> </strong><strong>X-INTERCEPT</strong><strong>. </strong></p><p></p><p><strong>[tex] ( - 3)/(5) x - (147)/(5) = 0 \\ ( - 3)/(5) x = (147)/(5) \\ x = (147)/(5) / ( - 3)/(5) \\ x = - 49

(-49,0)
