Answer:

x = 5

Explanation:

8x + 7 = 2x + 37 Subtract 2x from both sides of the equation

6x + 7 = 37 Subtract 7 from both sides

6x = 30 Divide both sides by 6

x = 5

Or you could plug in 5 for x and solve. If the equation is true, that is the answer

x= 5

8x + 7 = 2x + 37

8(5) + 7 = 2(5) + 37

40 + 7 = 10 + 37

47 = 47

If you try this with any other number, it will not equal. Lets try x = 11

8x + 7 = 2x + 37

8(11) + 7 = 2(11) + 37

88 + 7 = 22 + 37

95 ≠ 59 so x does not equal 11
