17/4 (4 1/4 as an improper fraction)
11/4 (2 3/4 as an improper fraction)

17/4-11/4=6/4=1 1/2

4 1/4 is equal to 17/4, and 2 3/4 is equal to 11/4. 17/4 take away 11/4 is 6/4 or 1 1/2
