Following the fall of the USSR, many communist countries opened up and revealed countries in economic despair. Albanians sought to migrate out to find a better life. As some became to leave it triggered a mass migration of people leaving Albania moving to Greece, Germany, and Italy. However, Italy was quite firm in not wanting to accept any migrants and had refused boats to land. One boat was able to land and attempted to deboard. The Italian government refused to accept the migrants and sent them back to Albania.
