1.  Which of the following correctly relates an angiosperm structure and what it develops into?  (1 point)

pollen grain → seed
ovary → fruit
embryo → fruit
ovule → fruit
2.  The specialized reproductive structure that evolved most recently is the  (1 point) seed.
cone.
ovary.
gametophyte.
3.  In angiosperms, pollen grains are  (1 point)
diploid, and are made when haploid gametes join in fertilization.
diploid, and are made when haploid gametophytes join in pollination.
haploid, and are made when haploid spores undergo mitosis.
haploid, and are made when haploid ovules undergo meiosis.
4.  In what way is fertilization dierent in angiosperms than in other plants?  (1 point) Unlike other plants, angiosperms require water for fertilization to take place. Angiosperms are the only plants to produce seeds aer fertilization takes place.
In angiosperms, a sperm fuses with an egg to produce a zygote.
Two fertilization events take place in angiosperms, producing a zygote and endosperm.
5.  What is the purpose of a flower’s petals?  (1 point)
to produce pollen
to protect the plant's seeds
to be attractive so more plants are planted by people
to attract animals that will pollinate the plant

1. Angiosperms are vascular seed plants that start from a ovule that is fertilized and it develops into a seed enclosed in an ovary. This ovary is enclosed in a flower. When this ovary matures it matures into a fruit. So your answer is then B.

The specialized reproductive structure of angiosperms that evolved recently is the ovary. It developed carpals that protect the ovary from environmental hazards like insects. Your answer is then, C.

Reproductive structures in angiosperms (i.e. flower) produce pollen grains that are haploid. They are produced when haploid spores under go mitosis. Mitotic division in the gametophyte is important to produce gametes. Your answer is then C.

What makes angiosperm fertilization different when compared to other plants is that TWO FERTILIZATIONS take place. This occurrence is called Double Fertilization. One fertilization produces a haploid and the other produces a triploid. Your answer is then D.

The main purpose of a flower's petals is to attract animals to aid in pollination. Animals that help pollinate angiosperms include bees, beetles, butterflies, birds and even bats. Your answer is then D.
