The Great Game also know for Bolshaya Igra was a result of Russia and Britain's imperialist aggression on building their empire on Central Asia. The threat of each one's presence of expansion made them conquer and expand more lands.

The Great Game was triggered during the 1830s by British Lord Ellenborough when he created a new trade route from India going to Bukhara. It established a stronger hold on British expanded territories in Persia, Afghanistan, and Turkey so Russia cannot have any control over the ports. While Russia, on the other hand, wanted Afghanistan to be a neutral zone for their trade routes. This eventually led to several successive wars.
