This is a system of equations. The best way to solve it is by realizing that you have two equations equal to y. Since y = y, it follows that
-x+7=x-1. Solving for x, you get 4.


7=2x-1 \\ 8=2x \\ 4=x

Then, substitute 4 into one of the original equations to find y.


y=(4)-1=3.

The solution is
