His anticipated victory never materializes because Bryan built depression among eastern conservative with his intimidation of changing their holdings late into fifty-cent dollars. Also, Bryan's principal business aim was inflation and he concentrated further on the South and West.

The reason for his defeat was that he paid more attention to the Southern and Western areas of the United States. Apart from that, Bryan also turned his attention towards inflation. He also caused the ire of conservatives when he attempted to change their assets which they strongly oppose.
