let x= number of 3 cent stamps
let y=number of 5 cent stamps
x+y=8
3x+5y=36

3x+5y=36 3x-5y=36
-3(x+y=8) . -3y-3y=-24
2y=12
y=6

x+6=8
-6 . -6
x=2

There will be 2 3 cent stamps and 6 5 cent stamps
