1. Add all of the allowances
2. divide by the total kids (24)
3. Answer $3.50

7 students......receive 0
5 students......receive 3......thats $ 15
7 students.....receive 5.......thats $ 35
3 students.....receive 6.......thats $ 18
2 students.....receive 8.......thats $ 16
the mean (or the average) can be found by adding up the total amount received and dividing by how many students there were.
so the mean is : (0 + 15 + 35 + 18 + 16) / (7 + 5 + 7 + 3 + 2) =
84 / 24 = 3.5 <==
