On a map, the length of a nature trail is 7.2 centimeters. If the scale is 1 centimeter to 25 kilometers, what is the actual length of the trail? Round to the nearest tenth when necessary. HINT: Set up and solve as a proportion and find x.

1/25 = 7.2/x.....1 cm to 25 km = 7.2 cm to x km
cross multiply
(1)(x) = (7.2)(25)
x = 180 km <===

Given the scale is 1 cm to 25 km.

We have to find the length of the trail from centimeter to the nearest tenth of kilometer.

Let's take the length of the trail be x km.

The length of the trail given 7.2 cm. We will have to find the length in km.

We have to set it up as a proportion. So we can write the proportion as,

(1)/(25) = (7.2)/(x)

We have to cross multiply first. We will get,

(1)(x) = (7.2)(25)

x= (7.2)(25)

x = 180

So we have got the required length of the train in kilometer.

The actual length of the trail = 180km.
