The Royal Fruit Company produces two types of fruit drinks. The first type is 60%

pure fruit juice, and the second type is 100% pure fruit juice. The company is attempting to produce a fruit drink that contains 70% pure fruit juice. How many pints of each of the two existing types of drink must be used to make 120 pints of a mixture that is 70% pure fruit juice?

Second fruit drink: pints

Okay, so let's make the variable x the 60% juice.
The equation:
0.60(x) + 1(120-x) = 0.7(120)
Multiply both sides by ten for easier calculation:
6x + 1200 - 10x = 840
Put x on one side and the numbers on the other:
-4x = -360
the negatives cancel out...
4x = 360
define x
x = 90
So there is 90 pints of the first juice and 120-90 of the second, or 30 pints of the second.
