Can the variance of a data set ever be​ negative? explain. can the variance ever be smaller than the standard​ deviation? explain.

variance cannot be negative because the variance is derived from standard deviation and standard deviation squares all data which neutralizes the effect of every negative sign........ standard deviation is the square root of variance so i am guessing that standard deviation should always be smaller than variance
