In William Blake’s “The Chimney Sweeper,” Tom dreams about an angel who frees chimney sweepers from their coffins and lets them go to heaven. Angel then says to Tom that if he is a good boy, he will also be rewarded by God. This dream changes his attitude about his work because he believes that if he works hard, he will be rewarded in heaven. Blake wrote this poem to highlight the abuse of child labour and show how society takes advantage of innocence.
