Starla bought cloth napkins at an outlet store for $4.25 each, and she also used a $20 off coupon. In the equation below, x represents the number of napkins, and y represents the cost before tax.

y = $4.25x - $20

If Starla paid $43.75 before tax, how many napkins did she buy?

Solution:

Given data in the question-

Price of per piece of napkin at an outlet store - $4.25

Discount coupon used a $20 off coupon.

y = 4.25x - 20

In the equation , x represents the number of napkins, and y represents the cost before tax.

She paid $43.75 before tax, which means
y=43.75

=> 43.75 = 4.25x-20\\= >43.75+20 =4.25x\\=>x=(63.75)/(4.25) = 15

Starla bought 15 napkins
