If x - 1 is a factor, then x - 1 = 0 will be an x - intercept of the function.
Which (solve for x) means if 1 is substituted into f(x) the result will be zero.

f(1)=(1)^5+1=2
This is known as the Remainder Theorem.
Since the result is not 0, the statement is false.
It actually has a factor of (x + 1)
