In order to become president of the United States, the candidate must win a majority of the votes in the electoral college. Each state has a certain number of electoral votes. How is it decided how many electoral votes a state gets?

The number of electoral votes per state is equal to the number of its senators plus the number of its individuals in the House of Representatives.
