Answer:

L = 19

W = 18

Explanation:

Equation

  • P = 2*(L + W)
  • Let the Width = W
  • Then the Length = W + 1

Givens

  • P = 74
  • The two consecutive numbers are one after the other.

Solution

  • 2*(L + W) = 74 Substitute W + 1 for L
  • 2(W + 1 + W) = 74 Combine like terms on the left
  • 2(2W + 1) = 74 Remove the brackets on the left
  • 4W + 2 = 74 Subtract 2 from both sides.
  • 4W + 2 - 2 = 74 - 2 Combine
  • 4W = 72 Divide by 4
  • 4W/W = 72/4 Do the division
  • W = 18
  • L = 18 + 1 = 19

Note: If the assumption is incorrect, please finish your sentence with odd or even consecutive numbers. I've used the word consecutive to be un modified. That way consecutive means one number after another.
