The valence electron configurations of several atoms are shown. how many bonds can each atom make without hybridization? 2s^2 2p^3

Answer: 3 bonds

Why?:
In 2p3 we have 3 unpaired electrons as the electrons in 2s2 are paired
whereas the electrons in 2p3 are unpaired (as max number of electrons in p sub shell is 6 so 2 in each of the 3 orbitals but we put single electrons in first so all 3 orbitals are filled)
so another atom can form bond pairs with those 3 unpaired electrons without hybridisation to form a full octet.
