Let the number of red and green peppers be x and y respectively.

x = y + 20

(x)/(y) = (7)/(2) \\ x = (7)/(2) y

(7)/(2)y = y + 20 \\ (5)/(2) y = 20 \\ y = 8

x = (7)/(2) y \\ x = (7)/(2) (8) \\ x = 28

Answer: green = 8, red = 28

Explanation:

green : red

2x 7x

y y + 20

\left \{ {{2x=y} \atop {7x=y+20}} \right.

Since y = 2x, I can substitute "y" with "2x" in the second equation:

7x = 2x + 20

-2x -2x

5x = 20

÷5 ÷5

x = 4

green: 2x = 2(4) = 8

red: 7x = 7(4) = 28
