I can't imagine how this would be correctly issued by a company. It means that the date on the check is before the bill comes due. They are almost asking the person who gets the bill not to commit an illegal act.

You can send a check in early, in which case you have post dated it. But predating it means the company had it in their hands long before they cashed it.

The action implies fraud of some kind.
