The Ethics in Goverment Act is a federal law that was issued in 1978 and it aimed to establish certain regulations to ensure responsibility when politicians are in office.

It permitted the public availability of the employment and financial history of public officials and of their close family members. Morover, restrictions were posed too in order to limit the participation of public officials in lobbies right after having worked for the public service.
