Mr. Rich had 2 times more cars than motorcycles in his garage. After he bought 1 more car and sold 2 motorcycles, there were 3 times more cars than motorcycles. How many cars and motorcycles were there in garage?

Answer: There were 20 cars and 10 motorcycle in the garbage.

Explanation:

Let x represents the total number of cars and y represents the total number of bikes initially.

Since, Mr. Rich had 2 times more cars than motorcycles in his garage.

Therefore, x = 2y ---------(1)

And, After he bought 1 more car and sold 2 motorcycles, there were 3 times more cars than motorcycles.

Therefore, x+1 = 3(y-3)

⇒x + 1 = 3y - 9

3y - x = 10 ------------(2)

put the value of x from equation (1) to equation (2)

We get, y = 10

Thus again from equation (1), x = 2 × 10 = 20

Therefore,There were 20 cars and 10 motorcycles in the garage.
