The correct answer is "resent ful"

The treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919 and it meant the end of WWI. The victorious powers used this agreements to impose sanctions on the losers, being Germany one of those. Important territorial and economic sanctions were imposed on Germany. Such sanctions were denominated war reparations.

As the newspaper headline shows, the terms of the treaty were considered abusive since it was signed and, later on, over the years, the situation became worse. There was a big economic depression, and the payment of the war reparations only made it worse. The goverment enlarged the money supply (printed money) to meet the due payments and this ended up causing a serious hyperinflation situation.

The serious harm caused by the war reparations was an argument typically used by the Nazi leaders to trigger an extreme nationalist reaction on the German population, and the support they achieve to gather contributed seriously to the road to WWII.
