I will take the example of the whole-genome-sequençing by next-generation-sequencing (NGS).

Appeared in 2007, next-generation-sequencing is the biotechnological revolution of recent years, allowing sequencing of large amounts of DNA in record times. For example, the human genome project cost $ 3 billion over 13 years between 1990 and 2003 to sequence the human genome using Sanger-sequencers distributed in several laboratories around the world. Today, with a NGS Illumina HiSeq X sequencer, in three days, we can sequence three human genomes per 1000 dollars each.
