Rearrange the formula c^2 = a^2 + b^2 for b.

You could start out by moving a² over to the left side:

c² = a² + b²

c² - a² = b²

After that, you would square root both sides to get rid of the square:

c² - a² = b²


\sqrt{{a}^(2) \: - {c}^(2) } = {b}
