Alexis placed one egg in a solution of 95% corn syrup. She placed another egg in distilled water. Alex observations after the experiment, she wrote some incorrect observation:

These observations can be explained because of the movement of water in and out of the egg. The solution of corn syrup was hypotonic meaning that the concentration of water was higher inside the egg. Water therefore moved into the egg by active transport. The distilled water was hypertonic. Therefore, the concentration of water was lower inside the egg. Water thus moved outside the egg by osmosis. Once the concentrations reached equilibrium, the water molecules stopped moving across the membrane.
