16.62 miles is the distance the runner can run in 1 3/4

Using the formula d=rt we multiply 9.5 (rate) times 1.75(time).

We solve and then we get the result 16.62.

9.5*1.75=16.62<---- Result

Hope this helps!

d=rt

r = 9 1/2 as an improper fraction (2*9 +1)/2 = 19/2

t = 1 3/4 as an improper fraction (4*1+3)/4 =7/4

d=rt

d = 19/2* 7/4 = 133/8

8 goes into 133 16 times with 5 left over

16 5/8 miles
