It would be 3 11/12
set aside and add the 1 and 2. which gives you the 3. Then find the common denominator for 3 and 4. which is 12. whatever you do to the bottom you have to do to the top. so 3×4 and 2×4 so it's 8/12. 4×3 and 1×3 so it's 3/12.
