3/10 inches x inches

---------------- = -------------

7/8 miles 1 miles


using cross products


3/10 * 1 = 7/8 * x

multiply by 8/7

3/10 * 8/7 = 7/8 *8/7*x

24/70 = x

divide by 2

12/35

12/35 inches per 1 mile
