In ΔABC, m∠CAB = 60° and

AD
is an angle bisector with D ∈
BC
and AD = 8 ft. Find the distances from D to the sides of the triangle.

The distance from D to the closest point on either side will be ...

... (8 ft)·sin(60°/2) = 4 ft

Both distances are 4 ft.

It isn't really clear that you don't want the distance along line BC; rather, you want the direct shortest distance to the side. For that, sufficient information is given.
