4/8 + 3/8 =
(7)/(8) = 0.875


Add:
(4)/(8) +
(3)/(8)

=
(4+3)/(8) =
(7)/(8)


The common denominator you can calculate as the least common multiple of the both denominators - LCM(8, 8) = 8

Note that the two fractions have common denominators. Because they have common denominators, you can just combine the terms:

4/8 + 3/8 = (4 + 3)/8 = 7/8

7/8 is your answer
