If you drive 60 miles and have 15 gallons of gas remaining in your tank. Then u continue driving and calculate that after driving 268 miles you have 7 gallons left what is your rate ?

If you put this as two ordered pairs and solve for the slope, you will get your rate. Let the slope = m

(15,60) and (7,268)

m = (268 - 60) / (15 - 7)

m = 208/8

m = 26

According to this, you are going 26 miles per every gallon used.
