Probably the most important similarity, for much of ancient Greek and medieval European history, was political decentralization. Greece was divided into a number of independent city-states. Medieval Europe may not have had much in the way of cities but it was certainly subdivided or lacking, for most of its history, in any strong central authority. Another similarity was that both Greece and medieval Europe witnessed much internal fighting and foreign invasion.
