Explanation:

Distance = r * t

Going:

d = 50 * x = 50x

Returning:

d = 55*(32 - x)

= 55*32 - 55*x

= 1760 - 55x

As the distance covered is same,

50x = 1760 - 55x

50x + 55x = 1760

105x = 1760

x = 1760 ÷ 105

x = 17 hours

d = 17 * 50

= 17*50

= 850 miles
