1. This question is based on the following paragraph. The back yard was covered in late afternoon sunlight. The leaves danced in the trees, delighted that spring had finally arrived. The tulips were bright slashes of color like a child's crayon drawing. In the garden, the first green shoots were pushing out of the soil to greet the warmth of the sun. Sitting on the porch swing, I drank in the beauty of nature, a delicious treat. Which sentence from the paragraph is an example of a simile? A. The tulips were bright slashes of color like a child's crayon drawing. B. In the garden, the first green shoots were pushing out of the soil to greet the warmth of the sun. C. The back yard was covered in late afternoon sunlight. D. The leaves danced in the trees, delighted that spring had finally arrived.

Sentence A is an example of simile: it is comparing the color and pattern of tulips to a child´s crayon drawing. Besides, this figure of speech is introduced by the word like. It is worth mentioning that simile is a figure of speech in which two unlike things, even belonging to different categories, are compared. The structure is usually, not always, itnroduced by "like" or "as".
