When the Treaty of Versailles was being discussed by the leaders of the different countries, the Primer Minister of Britain, Lloyd George had a set of aims and demands that the Treaty should contain in order for Britain to take part in it.
One of them was the need of compensations for orphans, widows and any men that could not work as a result of the war. Britain also wanted to keep the colonies that were under the country domain before the war started. The British government wanted Germany to be punished for being the main precursor in the outbreak of the conflict. But unlike France, Lloyd George wanted the punishment to be moderate, so that the consequences would not start a feeling of revenge within the German society.
