To solve this problem you need to confer the fractions to equivalent versions of each other. To do this you first convert 2(3/4) cups into an improper fraction so that we can properly compare them. 2(3/4) in improper form is 11/4 cups. We want both fractions to contain the same denominator so we will change 1/2 into an equivalent of 11/4. That would be 2/4. We then add 11/4 to 2/4. The answer is 13/4. We turn this back into a mixed fraction. 4 goes into 13 three times with a remainder of 1. The answer is 3(1/4) cups

Well, we have to take 1/2 and turn it into 2/4, then add 2 3/4 to it. Which would be 3 1/4. Hope this helped!
