A local salesman receives a base salary of $975 monthly. He also receives a commission of 6% on all sales over $1100. How much would he have to sell in a month if he needed to have a monthly income of $2100?

He would need to sell $_______ to reach his needed monthly income needs. (Round answer to the nearest penny. Do not use commas!)

salary + comission = income

975 + .06 (sales-1100) = income

975 + .06 (sales -1100) = 2100

subtract 975 from each side

.06 (sales -1100) =1125

divide by .06

sales - 1100 = 18750

add 1100 to each side

sales = $19,850.00
