HELP PLEASE! STUMPED :(

John earned some money mowing lawns. He bought a battery for 1.85$ and gave his mother 25$. He bought gas for 7.50$, and then spent half of the remaining money on clothes. If John has 40.25$ left, how much money did he earn mowing lawns?

Answer:

$114.85

Explanation:

he spent half of the remaining money on clothes and has 40.25$ left

he spent 40.25$ on clothes

total = 40.25+40.25+7.50+25+1.85

= $114.85

Answer:

John earned $114.85 from lawn mowing.

Explanation:

John has 40.25$ left but he spent half of the remaining money on clothes before.

So he had 40.25*2 = 80.50 before.

He bought a battery for 1.85$ and gave his mother 25$. He bought gas for 7.50$.

So before he did all those things, he had 80.50+7.50+25+1.85 = $114.85

John earned $114.85 from lawn mowing.
